Interstate 10 runs straight through Katy and Brookshire, and so does a lot of freight. Owner-operators and small fleets park in yards along the corridor and head out to Louisiana, New Mexico and beyond. A Texas-based rig that crosses a state line owes a fuel tax return every quarter. We build that return from your trip records and fuel receipts, so you spend your days off at home instead of at the kitchen table.
When You Need IFTA Fuel Tax Filing
The Texas Comptroller runs the IFTA program for Texas-based carriers. It applies to qualified motor vehicles that travel in more than one U.S. state or Canadian province. On the Comptroller’s application, a qualified motor vehicle is a Texas-registered truck with two axles and a registered gross weight over 26,000 pounds, any unit running three axles or more, or a combination over 26,000 pounds. Recreational vehicles don’t count.
The license lets you file one return in Texas instead of buying trip permits for every state. Texas then shares the tax with the other members.
Texas IFTA Due Dates by Quarter
Texas IFTA returns are due on the last day of the month after each quarter ends. That makes January through March due April 30, April through June due July 31, July through September due October 31, and October through December due January 31. The Comptroller wants returns filed online through Webfile.
A late return costs 50 dollars or 10 percent of the late tax, whichever is greater, plus interest. That minimum applies even to a late return that shows no miles or a credit. Skipping returns can also keep the state from renewing your license and decals.
Our IFTA Fuel Tax Filing Process
At the end of each quarter, pass along your ELD mileage by state, or paper trip sheets if that is what you keep, along with your fuel receipts. We add up the miles driven and the gallons bought in every state, find your average miles per gallon, and figure what you owe or get back in each place. You see the numbers and can ask questions before anything goes in.
Texas requires you to keep these records for four years from the due date or the filing date, whichever comes later. A copy of each quarter we prepare stays on file with us too, and we can tie your four quarters to the yearly income return for the trucking business.
IFTA Fuel Tax Filing Cost in Katy
Pricing turns on the size of the fleet, the number of states on your routes, and the shape of your records. An ELD export sorted by state is quick to work from. Handwritten logs and loose fuel slips take longer, and so does a backlog of quarters that were never filed. You get our fee up front.

Common Questions
My truck stays in Texas. Do I still need an IFTA license?
No. IFTA only covers qualified vehicles that also run outside Texas. A truck that hauls only within Texas pays its fuel tax at the pump and files no IFTA return.
Where do the IFTA decals go?
Texas says each qualified vehicle shows two decals, one on each outside side of the cab. Eligible Texas carriers get new decals each year with their renewed license.
