Four times a year, Ohio truckers who cross state lines owe an IFTA return. Miss one and penalties start, and your license renewal can be held up. If you head out of Cincinnati on I-75 or I-71 and run through other states, this filing is yours. We turn your miles and fuel receipts into a clean quarterly return, so the paperwork doesn’t eat your weekend.
When You Need IFTA Fuel Tax Filing
You need IFTA if your truck is based in Ohio, travels into at least one other state or Canadian province, and counts as a qualified motor vehicle. The Ohio Department of Taxation’s IFTA page defines that as any vehicle with three or more axles, or a two-axle vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more.
IFTA is an agreement between the 48 lower states and 10 Canadian provinces. Instead of filing in every state you drive through, you file one return in Ohio, and Ohio settles up with the others.
Ohio IFTA Deadlines by Quarter
January through March is due April 30. April through June is due July 31. July through September is due October 31. October through December is due January 31. If a due date lands on a weekend or state holiday, it moves to the next business day. Ohio now takes IFTA returns through OH|TAX eServices. A late return brings a penalty of 10% of the tax due or a set minimum, whichever is more, plus interest and a notice that your license may be revoked.
Our IFTA Fuel Tax Filing Process
Each quarter, you send us your trip sheets or ELD mileage report by state, plus your fuel receipts. We total the miles and the gallons bought in each state, figure the fuel used, and work out the tax or credit for each one. We go over the result with you before it is filed.
Ohio says your mileage and fuel records must be kept for four years from the date the return was due or filed, whichever is later. We keep a copy of every return we prepare. If you live in Cincinnati, your trucking profit is also taxed by the city at 1.8% on your yearly return, so we can line up your IFTA quarters with your income return.
IFTA Fuel Tax Filing Cost in Cincinnati
The fee depends on how many trucks you run, how many states you cover, and how your records come in. A clean ELD report by state takes less time than paper logs and a bag of receipts. Catching up several missed quarters takes longer than one current return. We tell you the fee before we start.

Common Questions
Do I need IFTA if my truck only runs in Ohio?
No. IFTA is for qualified vehicles that travel in Ohio and at least one other member state or province. If your truck never leaves Ohio, you pay fuel tax at the pump and don't file an IFTA return.
Can you catch up quarters I missed?
Yes. We prepare the missing quarters from your mileage and fuel records. Ohio will not approve a renewal while returns are unfiled or payments are due, and the renewal period begins October 1, so it pays to get current before then.
